What is Cashmere / Pashmina ?
The terms Cashmere and Pashmina generally refer to wool and fabric made from incredibly soft inner coat also called ‘pashm’, or speaking plainly - most intimate hair –grown on some goats found at high altitudes of the Himalayas. The finest hair collected are painstakingly segregated from coarser ones by hand, and the fabric woven using it is very soft, light and extremely warm. It is known as ‘Pashmina’ locally and as ‘Cashmere’ in the west. Depending on the fineness and quality of weave it is categorized differently. At our store the uncompromised, nearly best, hand woven quality is referred to as Pure Pashmina which is available in the form of a ‘shawl’, ‘scarf’ or a ‘wrap’.

What is the difference between the pure Pashmina & the Pashmina with silk blend?
The Pure Pashmina is very expensive as well as delicate, and is not a practical proposition for more frequent and informal dressing. Fifty-fifty (50/50) blending of pashmina fiber with silk and using mass producing techniques results in products (‘shawl’, ‘scarf’ or a ‘wrap’) which have a unique softness, smoothness, and are devoid of typical itching feeling associated with pure wool. Silk in the blend makes the product very elegant, comfortable, resistant to wear and tear, easily affordable, and quite suitable for everyday use, therefore making it very popular. We at Cashmere Pashmina Store call it Silk Pashmina. Women generally wear Silk Pashmina shawls/scarf as casual wrap or as a part of their business attire.

What are the sizes of Pashmina?

How do I care & clean my Pashmina?
We at Cashmere Pashmina Store recommend the following tips.
- We recommend dry cleaning only.
- Do not store in damp conditions or in direct sunlight. Fold and pack into tissue paper or a polythene bag and if you live in a humid area put a silicon gel pack to absorb humidity.
- Always remove stains as soon as possible. When storing your Pashmina product for a long time, have it dry cleaned before storing. This will also help protect it from moth.
- Additional protection against moth is storing Pashmina product along with moth balls or cedar chips. Ensure these do not lie directly on the garment to protect it from being stained by them.
- Do not wear the same garment every day, allow two or three days rest after wearing.
- Avoid wearing pashmina next to rough clothing and jewellery. Pearls are better for pashmina than metal necklaces and crocodile belts.
- Pilling is caused by abrasion due to regular use. To remove piles manually pick them off; do not brush or rub pashmina garments.
